Morocco. I loved everything about the kite sisters week in Essaouira. Morocco is an exotic place and this was a great introduction for me and it felt like a safe way to kite and explore a new place. Chelu answered all of my questions beforehand (I had a lot and she was always cheerful with good advice that extended beyond the trip.). Then she met me in Marrakech before we picked up the other women at the airport. Our home in Essaouria, Darlazuli, was awesome. It had the most comfortable bed, great yoga spot, al fresco dining and its own excellent cook. It was also located within the walls of the historical medina, a 3 minute drive (or 10 minute walk) to the kiting spot on the beach. The wind was good and we kited everyday except one. Chelu and Octavio’s instruction helped me propel my kiting. I also loved the surfing, yoga, camel ride, dinners at some great restaurants and the massage. Most importantly, the group of women was awesome and supportive. We have kept in touch and I’m grateful for these friendships. I felt very safe too.
Northshore Peru. With the help of Octavio and Chelu’s coaching, I took my riding to the next level in Peru, beginning to ride with a directional surf board. Talk about an amazing setting: we kited near humpback whales that were jumping out of the water! The miles of white sand beach weren’t bad either. Our private villa for the week was so pretty and I loved falling asleep at night to the sound of waves crashing. We also did yoga in the backyard overlooking the beach and ocean. The biggest challenge was maintaining focus and not gazing too much at the whales! We had excellent, home cooked meals at the villa and got to try a lot of different Peruvian dishes.
